Manufactured for almost two full decades, between 1971 and 1989, Mercedes\' highly regarded type R107 SL Roadster has made history in a big way. Being an advanced design, it still looks contemporary today and holds the place of honor as the most successful open-air motorcar ever built by Daimer Benz.
Weighing 175 pounds less than a 450SL, the fully equipped 380SL is not only much more agile, it also is a real gas miser! The 1982 380SL features many important improvements that were introduced to the SL series during its lengthy production run. Advanced primarily in the areas of fuel consumption and efficiency, it features:
A space age, all aluminum engine, to this day the lightest V8 ever installed in a Mercedes automobile.
An aluminum hood.
A newly designed and calibrated 4-speed automatic transmission with fluid coupling.
Inside, the SL provides a sphere of utmost luxury and well-being. Perfect ergonomics combined with Old World craftsmanship. The veneer is beautiful and the automatic climate control provides arctic temperatures or hot desert air upon demand. Naturally, the equipment includes, power windows, vacuum-operated central locking system, factory sound system, center armrest, and other amenities. The Sienna leather is in wonderful condition. Now almost thirty years old, the fine leather is still supple, displaying just the right amount of character that the British cherish as a proud attribute of authenticity. After all, this is leather, not MB-Tex vinyl! Velour carpeting is also original and good-looking.
This Roadster has covered a mere 118,000 miles in 27 years, just about 4,300 miles annually. It was never used for daily commuting, instead, it has always been a pampered, fun weekend cruiser. The rear parcel shelf offers ample space for luggage or could even be used in a pinch to provide accommodations for additional passengers. The Black canvas convertible top is fresh and like new. When not in use, it disappears below a metal lid and rests in its own compartment. Also included is the color-matched hardtop. Surprisingly spacious for a sports car is the SL\'s trunk. It will easily hold a couple of sets of golf clubs.
Below the aluminum bonnet awaits a 3,838cc all aluminum V8, the lightest eight-cylinder power plant ever installed in any Mercedes-Benz automobile! Featuring cylinder walls coated with Nikasil (for increased durability), two single overhead camshafts (SOHC), and BOSCH CIS electronic fuel injection. The Roadster starts, runs, shifts, and handles beautifully, just like you would expect it from a low-mileage sunshine car! The body is in excellent condition, with an extremely glossy and attractive Classic White finish as you can see from the pictures.
Instead of shelling out big bucks for a new car that will depreciate faster than you\'ll be able to pay it off, you could be driving this stunning Mercedes Roadster, a prestigious symbol of affluence and impeccable taste.
