Outstanding 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1 Fastback

Every now and then a classic so breathtaking, so spectacular enters our Benicia showroom that words cannot do it justice.  That’s definitely the case with this museum quality 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1 Fastback in Raven Black exterior and matching Black Clarion knit interior, complimented with NASCAR style hood pins, a matte black hood, spoiler, reflective side stripes, chrome styled wheels, a rear spoiler and chrome exhaust tips.  You’ll find a factory original Cobra Jet 428 cid V-8 engine under the hood with a four-speed close ratio manual transmission, a 3.50 traction lock rear axle, power steering, power front disc brakes, an AM radio and tinted glass- exactly as stated in the Deluxe Marti Report on this amazing classic muscle car.

It is one of the nicest examples we’ve ever seen in person and we have extensive documentation showing this 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1 Fastback’s life history and authenticity.

Numbers-Matching R-Code w/ Deluxe Marti Report

This 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1 Fastback was built in the San Jose plant on April 28th, 1969, which happened to be six days behind schedule. The engine block was produced on February 19th, 1969 and the heads (code 8k) in November of 1968.  The current owner was able to verify that the correct rear end (9C28), the correct transmission (RUG AE 2), the correct carburetor (C9AF-M), the correct differential (WFD) and the correct 3.50:1 gears (9B) are all still in place.  Additionally, all of the floors, frame rails, doors, fenders and torque boxes are 100% original without and visible rust, fillers or other damage.

Below is a summary of the Deluxe Marti Report and the Ford report-

  • 1969 Mach I (63C) built in San Jose, CA on April 28, 1969
  • R-Code w/ 428 V-8 & 4-speed close ratio transmission
  • 3.50 Traction Lok rear axle, power steering, power brakes
  • Raven Black with blackout hood treatment, sports roof
  • Black Clarion Knit / Vinyl Mach I high back bucket seats
  • Sport deck rear seat, tinted glass, AM radio

The current owner of this 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1 Fastback saw it at a Bay Area drag strip over 20 years ago and purchased it on the spot.  What followed was a complete tear-down to bare metal before this beautiful muscle car was stripped, sealed and finished in Black PPG Concept Urethane Paint.  A new interior was also installed including new instrument panels, a new Ford dash pad, plus a new windshield, door panels, headliner, upholstery and seat buns.  You’ll also find new chrome bumpers, a new Ford grille, new weather stripping/rubber, new marker lights, and new steel moldings.  Combined with color keyed racing mirrors, the factory rim blow steering wheels, center console and clock, is it a gorgeous example that comes exceedingly close to absolute perfection.

Spectacular Concours Level Rotisserie Restoration

Mechanically, this 1969 Mustang Mach 1 Fastback received just as much love from a multi-year restoration meeting MCA standards- right down to the AMK Concours correct bolt kits.  The Cobra Jet motor and every single part was completely disassembled and rebuilt with the highest quality new or restored parts.  A list of additional components used during the restoration can be found below-

Restored Factory mechanicals-

  • Factory 428 sleeved to standard bore, original forged pistons
  • New rings, bearings, oil pump, timing chain, polished crankshaft
  • Correct heads (rebuilt/pressure tested) , factory Competition Cam
  • Correct fan, clutch, differential, driveshaft (trued and balanced)
  • Transmission rebuilt with new synchro, gaskets and gears
  • Rear springs, power steering control valve, hoses & cylinder
  • Rebuilt factory power brake booster, AMK alternator

Replaced factory correct parts-

  • New suspension (front springs, tie rods, control arms, etc.)
  • New brakes (rotors, pads, brake lines, bearings, etc.)
  • New water pump, belts, Autolite 27F battery, electronics
  • New rear shocks (w/ correct staggered shock plates)
  • New master cylinder, MCA approved exhaust system & hangers
  • New center force dual friction clutch and pressure plate
  • New OEM rear spoiler & slats (resembling aftermarket dealer upgrade)

After the completed restoration, this 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1 Fastback was placed in a temperature controlled storage facility and driven a total of 685 miles since that time.  The current owner tells us that the engine is still being broken in and he has treated it accordingly.  It has also received regular professional maintenance to keep it running perfectly since every single component is in like-new condition.
