The next amazing vehicle up for sale in our Benicia showroom is this ultra-rare and desirable 1963 Chevrolet Corvette 2 Door Split Window Coupe with Daytona Blue exterior paint and what is believed to be the factory original interior, the fuel injected factory 327 cid V-8 engine and the numbers-matching 4-speed manual transmission, plus a completely pristine original  interior.  Over $9k was invested in 2013 on an upgraded suspension, Headman headers, a custom exhaust, aluminum wheels and an extensive tune up to have this beauty running in “better than new” condition. 

The 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Split Window Coupe is highly desired by collectors due to the single-year split rear window design.  Only 2,610 examples rolled out of the factory with the optional 327 fuel-injected engine and it is currently one of the most sought-after Corvettes ever produced.  This particular example is a spectacle that must be seen in person to truly appreciate.

NCRS Judge Reports Original Drivetrain, Fuel Injection, Glass, & Body Panels

The current owner of this 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Split Window brought this outstanding classic to an expert approximately two years ago to have it inspected for originality and overall condition.  An NCRS judge considered a specialist of mid-year examples performed a full inspection of this classic and found this to be a numbers-matching vehicle.  Here is a summary of his findings based on the NCRS judging guide-

• The engine number stamp (Feb 1963) appears correct/original
• The engine stamp appears original and very correct; motor rebuilt
• The trim tag and VIN plate are original
• The frame shows no signs of damage or prior repair
• The original body shows no damage, excellent body panel fit
• The original soft ray glass has correct dates, all glass original
• Original blue seats, carpeting, dash, instrument panels, gauges
• All chrome trim pieces appear original and excellent condition
• Original radio and clock are in place (not working but easy fix)

Additionally, the NCRS judge included a second professional in the inspection for a second opinion on all of his findings.  They did determine that some of the factory wiring has been rerouted and that many components of the suspension have been upgraded for better performance.  This desirable classic has also been repainted once in its lifetime and it appears a shade or two darker than the factory “Daytona Blue” with additional metallic flake.  The only other non-original components spotted were Headman headers with a custom exhaust (original manifolds available), a dealership-replaced master brake cylinder (from 1964) and aftermarket aluminum wheels.

Interior Summary

In terms of condition, this 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Split Window Coupe shows beautifully in person with only minimal wear to this desirable muscle car.  The factory seating shows the slight signs of natural wear across the factory stitching and blue vinyl, but with no tears or major blemishes of any kind.  The factory dash, instrument panels and steering column are all exceptional as is the interior trim work, carpeting, glove box and headliner.  A discerning collector would not find much that needs to be refreshed in order to consider this a true investment grade classic.

Exterior Summary

Along the exterior, this ’63 Corvette lines up as beautifully as any examples we’ve ever seen.  The exterior paint is excellent and a protective respray of the underbody also looks about average for a vehicle of this caliber.  There are some slight cosmetic issues in the paint and trim that could be addressed but nothing that takes away from this one overall.  The engine compartment is also nicely sorted in its original configuration and requires only minor detail work to be taken to the next level.

Performance Summary

During our test drive, we were pleased to see that this 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Split Window had an excellent response time when prompted, nice acceleration and a smooth, solid ride quality without any noticeable squeaks, vibrations or rattles.  While the suspension and header upgrades were subtle, they play great dividends to this classic and take it to an entirely different level.  The braking is also uniform so this highly desirable classic can be enjoyed immediately on the open road.
